Life, the Multiverse, and Everything Everywhere All At Once - A Primer
A Novel Idea to Build Worlds Together
When it’s time for a change, life let’s you know it. The world we live in now changes more quickly than anyone can reasonably keep up with. Information has accelerated to a point where both reality and truth are under constant stress. We hardly share a reality anymore. There’s tension in the air, an anticipation of something coming that no one can define. Eventually, that stress has to break.
For the last 2+ years i’ve had my eyes on the rising tide of change. The high water mark increases daily. Within the last month or so, i believe i’ve seen the start of a dramatic change in daily life. The high water seems ready to overflow the levy’s and dams we’ve built together; this work we do to establish a shared reality. i know few people in my circles who implicitly trust what they see or hear anymore. So what’s a person to do?
Over that same period of time i’ve built my own understanding of reality to help me deal with the constant change, not in spite of the flood of information but in concert with it. All information is valuable, even, and especially, if we determine it’s not a true or accurate representation of reality. The importance of discernment is more apparent.
The work i’ve done to explain my perspective on reality is over 300 pages of insight, analysis, and effort. i’ve been editing it, applying for different grants, attempting to win contests to publish it, and i’ve been taking my lumps. Traditional publishing isn’t an easy place to break into for anyone. My reality is that I have several identities working against me. The risk tolerance of publishing companies seems to have dropped significantly.
Being that i’m non-white, non-straight, have no gender identity, have a fluid sense of relationship, write about the overlap between so-called “hard Western” sciences and spirituality:esoterica, plus being “unknown” makes me a hard sell. i’m not interested in candy-coating my ideas. i write non-fiction because what i live and understand is not fictional. i often wonder if my ideas would be more digestible if i wrote stories instead of presenting them the way i have. This has stopped me from getting my work into the world sooner. It hasn’t done me any favors delaying it with these thoughts and the work languishes behind the scenes, waiting for its time to be seen.
Starting today, anything i publish on Substack with the title Life, the Multiverse, and Everything Everywhere All At Once will be part of this novel-sized work i’ve been writing and refining. My risk tolerance is increasing, if only because clarity is telling me the risk of publishing the work itself is the reward and the risk of the work never seeing the light of day is higher than ever. As the world changes, the privileged will continue to dominate our structures and there will be even less opportunity for new ideas to take up space. Those that we admire (or once admired) will willingly destroy their artistic integrity for a chance at survival. The coming wave will wash over us all eventually and no amount of kowtowing will save us, at least not for long.
So in the spirit of sharing knowledge whose structure and ideas can alter emergently, i share this artistic endeavor with you. It is my sincere hope that what i’ve written isn’t used as a 1:1 guide but as a living document, something that can be altered at any time by you the reader or me the author. i want us to establish a report, freely share ideas, and create new worlds together. By practicing this at a smaller scale, we can bring these ideas out into our individual realities and create a larger reality we enjoy living in together.
Thank you for being with me whether for a single day or from the start of this Substack. i cannot wait to share new realities with you.
With love from every universe,
Kelly Lavigne
